The greatest college basketball team of all time?
People've said that either the 67' 76ers, 72' Lakers or even 96 Bulls are 1 of the greatest pro basketball team of all time.
Now, let's make something different, who do you think was the greatest college hoops team of all time?
Personally I think that title belongs to UCLA, it's either the 1968 UCLA or 1972 UCLA (Both were coached by John Wooden, of course) Those teams were just amazing.
What is your pick and why?
I'll choose a more modern team.
The 1996 Kentucky Wildcats.
Tony Delk was an amazing guard in college, and could rain 3's. Walter McCarty did everything he had to do on the post. (Yes, that is who my name is after, im a big fan, lol) Antoine Walker had the inside outside game, Ron Mercer was a shooter and deadly scorer, and Derek Anderson was an athletic winger. They also had Nazr Mohammed and Mark Pope off the bench. What all 7 of these guys have in common is that they had NBA careers, most of them successful. They absolutely dominated the NCAA ranks, going 34-2 (16-0) the first team to go undefeated in the SEC since the 1950's. They did not play their best game in the Final, shooting just 38% yet still easily rolled over Syracuse.
This team is the best because they had a very deep team, featuring 6 first round picks. I also feel like the NCAA was more balanced in 1996 than when teams like UCLA and Indiana were dominant.
1996 was loaded with amazing teams, such as Allen Iverson led Georgetown, Marcus Camby and UMass, Ray Allen and UConn, and Eric Dampier leading Mississippi State.
Kentucky also blew out their tournament opponents, not having a game closer than 20 until the Final 4, where they faced UMass, who was widely considered the 2nd best team.
They were simply dominant, in my opinion the best team ever.
