What book/dvd would you recommend for teaching yourself to play the violen?
I already have a musical background, so no need for basic music theory.
I'm SO sorry! ViolIN! I must be exceptionally stupid...
Principles of Violin Playing and Teaching
by Ivan Galamian, Elizabeth Green
"Presents Galamian's philosophy of teaching and practice methods as he wrote them and used them to produce astonishing results with students."
I would recommend this book to any musician. Although it extensively covers bowing and left hand technique, the most important aspects are in how to practice and master your art. The variations suggested can be used by any musician on any instrument and will take you to a new level of technical control.
This book is a MUST for any violinist who is serious about playing the violin. It has solution to all of the problems that a violinist faces, in addition, this is a great leaning tool, lines from major concertos are used as examples. again, this book is a must for anyone who's serious about playing the violin or even becoming a concert soloist.
It's what I used to learn, and it did wonders for me. So, if you're interested in learning violin, I'd buy that book.
