how can i control, or even eliminate some sort of dark green algae growing in my marine aquarium?

I set up this tank a few months ago, and all its inhabitants are healthy. The algae is a dark green, and grows quickly in thin layers covering the sand, rocks, and glass. Im kinda nervous about using any synthetic algae killers and stuff like that.

Yep the easiest way is to remove it by hand when you see it that and the coraline algae.
I use phosphorus pads. you can by them in sheets at the fish store and only run about $2.00 for two large sheets. These pink sheets can be cut to fit any part of your filter. They remove phosphates which the algae feed on. They do not work over night but rinsing them out when you clean the tank and replace them will greatly reduce the algae growth. This is a much better way than adding chemicals to kill algae.

Problem with the chemicals it doesn't just kill algae. Then you have a massive die off causing your biofilter to spike.

Really, remove most by hand, add the pads and you and your fish will be much happier.
