Color Trek
Colour of Star Trek Voyager Uniforms?

What is the significance of the uniform colour in Star Trek Voyager.
Janeway's is Red, Tuvoks is Yellow, the Doctor's is Blue.

I thought Red may be commanding officers but why is Kim's and Tuvok's Yellow. Blue could indicate medical but the Doctor was supposed to be by himself but other crew member are seen walking around wearing blue.

Red is the color used for commanding officers, ever since TNG. (You'll notice Picard, Riker, Sisko and Chakotay also wear red.) Yellow is for tactical and ops officers, so people who repair things (like Myles O'Brien, Data, Geordi LaForge, Belanna Torres, and sometimes Harry Kim) or are in charge of security and man the tactical console (like Worf did in TNG, and like Tuvok does in Voyager) wear yellow. Worf was still a security officer in DS9, but he wore red then because he was promoted and became a commanding security officer. The Doctor wears blue (though personally I think it's more of a teal/green color) because it is a science/medical color. (Bones, Beverly Crusher, Dr. Pulaski, Ezri Dax and Julian Bashir also wore blue/green uniforms. Spock wore a blue uniform also because he was a science officer. Jadzia Dax wore that color for a similar reason.)

In TOS, of course, the colors were a little different. Commanding officers wore gold uniforms (which sometimes looked greenish-yellow in certain lighting) and engineering and security crew-members wore red. It was very BAD to be a security officer in those days - chances were, you wouldn't come back from an away mission if you were wearing a red shirt and your name wasn't Scotty. That's where the Trekkie term, "redshirt" comes from. Personally, I think that's why they changed the colors around. After all, they couldn't go around shooting command officers like Picard!

Well, I probably gave you more information than you wanted, but I hope that answers your question.
