Who do you think will win the 2008 UAAP Men’s Basketball Championship, Ateneo or De La Salle, and why?
The classic rivalry between the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the De La Salle Green Archers, the reigning UAAP Men’s Basketball Champions, is rekindled this year when they come face-to-face in the 2008 UAAP Men’s Basketball Championship. Share your views and show some school spirit as we all wait and see who the best basketball team is this year!
i'm an archers fan and i really do believe that they have a chance to win the championship. the things that they must do are:
consistency of the bench players in every game - we all know that the archers have the best scoring in the league right now. guys like maierhoffer, barua and villanueva must really bring their A-game every game of the series for them to have good chances of winning, especially if casio gets cold. not only does it relieves caiso's scoring burden, it also adds adds confusion to the defensive end cause they won't know who will score for the archers. also, admu's bench is not as strong as that of the archers, so its really a must for the archers to have a very productive bench.
limit inside scoring - al hussaini has been a monster scorer for the eagles this year. and with him running off the break is a big advantage for them. so they must really put someone who'll guard him tightly. we can't let him run around, finding easy positions for scoring. they should either deny the entry passes, or front him up.
tighten perimeter defense - chris tiu should really be guarded tightly, cause when this guy starts making shots in streaks, he's unstoppable. they should have a 40 minute lockdown on this guy, especially down the stretch cause he's most especially deadly at crunch time. jai reyes, eric salamat should also be checked.
quicker help defense - guys like eric salamat, jai reyes, and buenafe are good at slashing the lane, giving inside players like al hussaini and baclao an easy time to score inside. in their 2nd game this season, this was what the eagles have been doing in some parts of the game. better player movement on the defensive end is a must to prevent occurence of such situation. the archers big man must also run back quick on defense as al hussaini is a big man that likes to run the break.
better rebounding - this is what should the archers also do at the defensive end especially when casio is taken out of the half court offense for them to have an easy opportunity at the basket. another reason why they should run more is because the archers are having problems driving to the hole in the half court offense, especially when baclao and al hussaini are both inside the court.
this is the areas where the archers must concentrate more. on the other hand, the ateneans should just:
- continue taking casio out of the archers offense
- continue defending the paint
- run more plays for tiu and al hussaini
overall i'd say this year's finals match-up will go down in history, as these two teams have never failed in entertaining people with their passion, dedication and love for the game.
