Is it okay to use your off arm to penetrate to the basket?

When i attack the basket, everybody says i stick my arm STRAIGHT out, but i use it for momentum to get off quicker. Is this wrong, and if it is, how do i stop it and get to the rim otherwise?

It's an offensive foul, you can't use your off arm to "clear out" the defender. Make a better fake, jab step and cross over. Get the defender to step one way and you go the other.
