How to teach the fundamental skill of performing a basketball layup?
What activities can I make 7th graders (beginners) do, to allow them to perform a layup successfully
I need 4 activities and at the moment I'm thinking of doing rebounding line lay-ups, ordinary lay-ups, dribbling game where everyone dribbles a ball and has to knock away other peoples basketballs and probably 3 man weave.
are there any other better activities i can do?
thanks.
One suggestion that pops into my head is the Mikan Drill. A player shoots as many layups as he/she can in a limited amount of time (60 seconds or so) or until he/she makes a set number of shots. The player has one ball and needs to rotate sides of the basket, which foot to jump off of, and which hand to shoot with. The trick is getting the ball as quickly as possible as it comes through the hoop. It is a great drill for beginners and experienced players.
Check out the link in the source section for a video of the Mikan Drill.
