Why Boston Celtics basketball's executive Danny Ainge was able to say that?

prior to the acquisition of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in the summer of 2007 stating "They will be never called the Big Three until they win a championship"?

Michael is absolutely correct.

Usually when you think of the Big Three, you associate them with championships. So Ainge was saying Pierce/KG/Allen shouldn't be considered on the same level as McHale/Parish/Bird until they win a championship too.
